A Photographic Record of Life on the Home Front

The size of this book (just short of A3) makes it unwieldy, and the reason for this is to give full justice to the excellent b&w photos which accompany the text by the late Benny Green, jazz trumpeter and raconteur. The book is very much London-centric, from the first photo of London children being evacuated to the country in 1939, to the last, where a returning soldier is embraced by his family outside their new prefab in Tulse Hill. However, it is none the worse for that and gives an atmospheric view of the home front during the conflict.

Britain at War by Benny Green

Britain at War by Benny Green. This was purchased as a gift for a friend and delivered directly to him by you. He was delighted with the gift as he had attempted to buy/trace it through the high street bookstores. The book brings back so many memories, not all bad, of the time that he and I (and many like us) lived through the daily destruction of places around where we all lived.
