Harrowing

This tale of the moderately wealthy hereditary peer descending into substance abuse alongside his new wife is written in a style that reminds one of Oscar Wilde albeit without the flair that Wilde has a mastery of.In reality the tale is essentially an advert for his quasi religious cult that was largely a vehicle for his hedonistic desires, with the cult characterised as the saviour of our hero through spiritual retreat.At times wordy as Crowley attempts to philosophise on the human condition, it is for all that a worthwhile read, although it does fizzle out somewhat towards the end.
