5Foreigner explains the English to themselves. Possibly.
By R.S.
The first in Shah's anthropological trilogy focusing on the English. It is at once humorous and serious. The author makes it more or less impossible not to laugh as he describes many encounters with this isles' indigenous that to many will be more than familiar. He also, among many an engaging tale, attempts to explain the origins of 'Englishness' speculating that it may actually be a social meme that creates its substance, rather than the atrocious weather round here. A very informative, entertaining and humorous book.

5Plenty Of Pointers to the Future.
By T.C.
Baffled at first, then a farthing or two dropped. More to Darkest England than explaining the English to themselves.. or explaining how we might become English; an art we seem to have forgotten.Chapter 30 for example..Heisenberg Wasn't so Original...Here are two quotes from that chapter.'This supposed madness is never more in evidence than when the English are imparting information by the method-without-a-system-which to outsiders- is positively oriental, even metaphysical, in texture.''.......Perhaps to describe this Shakespeare uses the word multipotent: Having the power to do many things. To get closer to the truth we would have to invoke another English word, omniform, a sort of opposite of uniform, and signifying 'capable of every form.'Quotes from page 287. HardbackReading between the lines is fun in this book. Can't wait to re-read the other two books in the Trilogy. The Natives Are Restless and The Englishman's Handbook. Make no mistake, read as a whole, plenty of pointers to the future that is now the present and how to deal with that future.
