The Spanish Armada

I already had a copy of this book in paperback, but found it to be so informative , and an excellent study of the whole matter that I sought to purchase a hardback copy.While no single book can be considered to be totally exhaustive, when covering any matter as complex as this, in my view, it does a very good job. Written in a style readily understood and flowing, it presents a logical and balanced view of the Great Spanish Armada, and indicates just how close to defeat through lack of funds, from the parsimonious government of Queen Elizabeth I, the English came.There is adequate homage paid to our maritime fighting captains, and crews, though it is also pointed out that their actions were not totally altruistic.Like later history, it was presence of `The ditch' that saved us ! in conjunction with pure `bloody minded' British defence, ably assisted [as in 1944] by the weather !
